The Wabash County Highway Department provides a free source of wood chip mulch from roadside brush and storm debris. The wood chips are located on Grover St. (off Manchester Avenue) in Wabash. Be prepared to load and transport the wood chips. Call the Highway Department at 563-2091 for more information. The wood chipper used for this mulching program was partially funded through a grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. City of Wabash residents - Rake leaves onto your tree lawn (not into the street) for curbside collection. Call 563-4171 for more information. Town of North Manchester residents - Take brush and small limbs to the North Manchester street barn on the first Saturday of the month. You can also take finished chips home with you. Call 982-9800 for details. Town of LaFontaine residents - Call the street department at 981-4591 for the leaf drop-off location. COMPOST:Compost: Compost is produced when organic waste decomposes. Composting reduces yard and food waste, provides a nutrient-rich soil enhancer and saves you money. Composting can be a science or a very simple process. Your level of involvement is up to you.
