STOP! DON'T FLUSH!

Eliminate Expired
Drugs Environmentally

WHY?

WHAT?

WHERE?

WHO?

Why is this program important?

Flushing or trashing expired drugs can contaminate the environment, become a hazard to human health, pollute our drinking and ground water, and jeopardize aquatic creatures.

Specific dangers include (but are not limited to) the following:
  • Unused drugs can be an accidental health threat.
  • Some drugs may kill bacteria in sewage treatment plants and septic systems if flushed down the drain and may produce resistant bacteria.
  • Burning drugs can release toxic pollutants into the air.
  • Drugs can be salvaged from trash receptacles and illegally sold and consumed.
