| Mr. Arwood's 4th grade class at W. C. Mills Elementary School began by reading the story, Just A Dream by Chris Van Allsburg. The story is about a boy who dreams what could happen to our Earth if people continue to pollute and be wasteful. When he awakes, his outlook about the Earth and the importance of recycling is changed. The class followed up the book with an recycling education activity led by our Education Partners. To illustrate the message, students participated with their families in making items from materials that would have otherwise been thrown away. Take a look at some of the wonderful designs the students and their families created! |
Manchester Elementary School Sixth Grade Art Class Reuse Project: Mrs. Rinearson's sixth grade art classes brought boxes, paper towels, toilet paper rolls, popsicle sticks, plastic bottle caps and other items otherwise destined for the trash into their art room. Working cooperatively in small groups, students used the materials to construct replicas of medieval castles. Through their art history lessons, students learned the terminology of the era and equipped their models with accurate and creative medieval structures. Each castle had a royal house, church, stable, curtain wall, gatehouse, servant's quarters and bailey. Constructing a moat earned extra credit! Kudos to Mrs. Rinearson and her students for enhancing their knowledge of a fascinating time period by such a creative, hands-on art project! |
