What's accepted at the 24-hour, Wabash County residential, drop-off recycling locations and how to prepare:

  • Corrugated Cardboard
    includes corrugated cardboard only
    flatten
    NO waxed cardboard accepted (such as milk or juice cartons, produce boxes).

  • Mixed Paper
    includes junk mail, product flyers, magazines, catalogs, paperback books, newspapers, includes all inserts that come in the paper (bundle only in paper bags - NO PLASTIC BAGS) insides of hardback books (remove hardback covers)
    includes clear windows in envelopes
    includes paperboard (cereal and cracker boxes, etc.)
    If separate bin is not provided at drop-off location, place mixed paper in newspaper bin.
  • Aluminum Cans
    includes aluminum beverage cans (aluminum is not attracted to a magnet, is shiny, and weighs less than steel)
    rinse and drain
    flatten, using can crusher if you have one
    CAUTION: if you step on a can to flatten, hold onto a doorway or counter so you won't slip.

    DO NOT DROP OFF IN PLASTIC BAGS

  • Steel Cans
    Includes steel food and beverage cans rinse, drain, remove labels flatten if possible  CAUTION: if you step on a can to flatten, hold onto a doorway or counter so you won't slip.  Other steel items accepted; Band-Aid and food tins, wire clothes hangers (wire together or place in box to avoid tangling), jar lids, funnels, sifters, baking pans.

    DO NOT DROP OFF IN PLASTIC BAGS

  • Glass Jars & Bottles
    includes clear, green and brown food grade glass jars and bottles (food grade means glass jars and bottles that you purchase with food or drink already packed inside):
    rinse, drain, leave labels on
    remove lids and neck rings
    separate by color
    NO sheet glass (window panes), ceramic items, ovenware, clay flower pots, crystal,
    drinking glasses, home canning jars, light bulbs, mirrors

    DO NOT DROP OFF IN PLASTIC BAGS

  • Plastic Jugs & Bottles #1 & #2
    includes plastic jugs and bottles (with neck smaller than body)
    includes ONLY #1 & #2 (common #1=2-litre pop bottle; common #2=milk jugs, detergent bottles)remove lids, pumps and neck rings rinse, drain, flatten.
    CAUTION: if you step on a jug to flatten, hold onto a doorway or counter so you won't slip.
    NO PLASTIC BAGS OF ANY TYPE!
    NO numbers of plastic other than #1 or #2!

    Please, NO commercial users at the residential, drop-off recycling locations!

PROBLEM WASTE ITEMS

    Appliances & tires are accepted only at the 1101 Manchester Avenue facility during business hours (8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., M-F) Please call ahead (260-563-7649) to arrange an appointment time for drop off.   DO NOT leave appliances or other items outside gates or at unstaffed facility, or at any residential drop-off recycling location! Appliance and tire drop-off is a Wabash County residential service only. Business and Commercial users please call 260-563-7649 to dispose of problem waste items.

  • Appliances:
    Includes stoves, clothes washers and dryers, dishwashers, water heaters, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers. Resident price list
     
  • Tires
    Larger tires, please call for special arrangements  Check the Resident price list
    for smaller tires accepted.  Remove water and/or caked mud and dirt from tire cavity.

Household Batteries:

    Household batteries are accepted at the following locations, only during business hours (Household batteries come from radios, watches, clocks, toys, flashlights, etc.):

    Corroded, leaking or otherwise damaged household batteries should be securely sealed in a plastic bag before dropping off for recycling. NO lead acid batteries, please!

    Waste Oil:

      Waste oil is accepted at the 1101 Manchester Avenue facility only during business hours. Please call 260-563-7649 for an appointment. DO NOT leave waste oil outside the facility or at unstaffed facility, or at any residential drop-off recycling location! This service is offered to Wabash County residents at no charge. Business and Commercial entities please call 260/563-7649 for information.

      Waste Oil includes:

    • motor oil, hydraulic oil, gear oil.

      Chemicals:

      • fuels (gasoline, kerosene), solvents (paint thinner, carburetor cleaner), brake fluid,
      • pesticides, chemicals, hazardous waste
      • Waste oil must be contained in closed, leak-proof, reusable containers
      • containers must have a capacity of 5 gallons or less
      • facility staff will empty your container and return to you for reuse.


        Waste oil may also be taken to the following locations. Please call vendors in advance for specific requirements and hours. DO NOT drop off used oil after business hours.

      Antifreeze Recycling:

        Used antifreeze is included in the District program. You may take used antifreeze to the following location. Please call first for requirements and hours.  Call for details. DO NOT drop off used antifreeze after business hours.
